A shift should not begin by asking around the workshop and reconstructing the previous eight hours from memory.
Handover needs unresolved context
The incoming team needs to know what is still open: machines down, temporary repairs, waiting-for-parts items, work in progress, must-watch conditions and reports that still need attention.
Counts are not enough
Knowing there are three open jobs does not explain what the next shift must do. A useful handover includes the asset, what happened, the current condition and the next action where it is known.
Make handover part of the maintenance system
Keeping handover in the same system as work, assets, parts and documents gives the incoming shift a better starting point and preserves context that would otherwise disappear.
